As the owner or manager of a retail store, you must lead by example. Lead with enthusiasm and let your attitude spread. If you are upbeat and excited about the day, customers, sales games and incentives; your employees will be positive and excited. Conversely, if you’re somber and lack excitement, you will send the message to your employees that it’s okay to lack enthusiasm.
When implementing sales games, holding meetings, conducting training sessions, or talking with customers, stay energetic and positive. Consider everything a sales presentation. After all, you are selling the company and the job to your employees daily so that they in turn sell more products. Get them excited and keep them that way!
Frequently ask your staff how they’re doing and keep them hyped. You have more responsibility than anyone in the company, but make an honest effort to keep the enthusiasm about the company rolling so that the people on the front line increase profits. Schedule yourself to go into your store and spread encouragement. This is also an opportunity to learn if some of your staff needs help or training with product knowledge, salesmanship skills or procedures. If you give commission and play games, let them know how they are doing and give helpful tips for improvement.
And don’t forget to celebrate your accomplishments.
